We all have goals, even if you haven’t taken the time to put the specifics down. Goals are proof that you need progress. In order to achieve goals, we must be MOTIVATED. There are different things that motivate each one of us. It could be your kids, your family, your desire for change, your faith, but the one thing that will motivate anyone, is PROGRESS. When you start to see yourself getting closer to your goal than you were last month, it motivates you to keep going.
Be motivated by progress. Fall in love with progress. Progress is growth, development, and advancement to higher stages. You are responsible for your own progress. No one else can make you get closer to your goal if you aren’t motivated by progress. Do you want to be the same person next year as you are today? You shouldn’t. We need to be growing, increasing, learning and changing every day if we want our life to look different tomorrow than it does today.
The thing about this motivation is that it requires you to take a step or two towards change before you’ll see the progress that will motivate you. There’s no better motivation than progress, but you can’t see progress until you start working. This can be true in your health and fitness journey, your education, your career aspirations, or in your relationship with Christ. If you wait until you FEEL LIKE working out, applying for college, getting a job, reading your Bible, you may never start. Your feelings are subject to change, they aren’t reliable, and they are flesh driven. It’s time to stop letting your feelings decide.
Do you want to make a change in your life so that this time next year you’re not sitting at the same level spiritually, financially, fitness wise, or in your marriage? It’s going to take work, and it’s going to require going beyond how you feel. Declare right now, “My feelings don’t decide my actions. My decisions are made because of where I want to be, not how I feel right now!”
Instead of letting your feelings “motivate” you which will yield uncertain and inconsistent results, let the PROGRESS toward your goals motivate you! If you haven’t taken the time to get your goals down on paper, do it today.
